Our Men’s Abel Tasman Adventure has been designed to offer you that real adventure and to show an incredible experience on the South Island of New Zealand:

- Kayak and trek in the world famous Abel Tasman National Park.
- Explore gentle beech forests, golden sands and glistening water.

- Kick back and relax in Nelson at the end of a spectacular journey.

No previous hiking experience is necessary – you just need to be reasonably fit and enthusiastic. Our group training sessions in Sydney will make sure that you are able to truly enjoy the experience. The group will be limited to a maximum of just 9 and accompanied by an experienced trekking guide and PrimalFit Trainer.

Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Wellington, short flight to NelsonOne hour drive from Nelson to Kaiteriteri, then take a pleasant water taxi along the beautiful coastline of Abel Tasman National Park to Awaroa Lodge. D
Day 2 Awaroa – Kahurangi National Park (Flora Hut/campsite) 2 .5 hours hiking, 3 hrs kayaking*
Hike on the Abel Tasman track around to Tonga Quarry. Meet sea kayak guide and paddle back to Anchorage, exploring marine reserve, secluded beaches en-route. Board water taxi at Anchorage for return journey to Kaiteriteri. Drive to Flora Saddle car park in Kahurangi National Park. Kahurangi is New Zealands second largest National Park and renowned for its rugged limestone mountains and very diverse alpine flora. Walk for 30 minutes into campsite, situated nearby the Flora Huts, choose between tent or hut accommodation. BLD

Day 3 Flora Hut – Mt Arthur – Salisbury Hut 7 hours hiking
Hike up on to the Tablelands via Mt Arthur. Optional climb to summit of Mt Arthur (approx 2 hours return). Continue along ridge track with spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness and down to the Motueka Valley. From the summit of Gordons Pyramid, the track descends through beech forest skirting around several large sinkholes. Spend the night in Salisbury hut. Very nice hut looking out over the Tablelands. BLD
Day 4 Heritage Hotel – Nelson 5 hours hiking
Optional morning hike up on to Balloon Ridge, great opportunity to further explore this fascinating landscape. Return to the hut for morning tea then follow the Flora Valley track back out to the vehicle. En route pass by several rock shelters that were used as accommodation by miners and prospectors many years ago. From the car park it is a two hour drive back to Nelson where we stay at a comfortable hotel and enjoy a relaxing night out. BL
Day 5 Nelson – Sydney
Free morning to explore Nelson. There are also some excellent short hikes available. At lunchtime we transfer to Nelson airport for the return flight to Sydney. B

Hiking & Fitness
Average 4-5hrs physical activity per day, up to 7 on day threePack weights of 12-15kgs on some days.

No previous hiking experience is required, but you need to be reasonably fit and enthusiastic.
Guides and Safety
Your enthusiastic New Zealand guides have a thorough knowledge of natural history and will enjoy sharing and discussing this with you. Each has over a decade of outdoor experience; their knowledge of the back-country and weather will ensure a safe trip. In addition, they are all trained in mountain first aid and carry personal locator beacons. The guides enjoy meeting and getting to know new people and have the skills to make everybody feel part of the group. Please be gentle with your guide – good guides are hard to find!What to Take
New Zealand’s weather is changeable and we can experience extremely cold weather at any time of year, especially in the mountains. Our huts/camps vary in altitude from sea level to over 1000 metres. It is necessary to have warm clothing. Jeans are not suitable for hiking.Essential Items

- backpack (at least 60 litres capacity)
- backpack liner (strong plastic bag)
- 3-season sleeping bag
- waterproof raincoat (Gore-tex or similar)
- warm fleece/wool jersey (not cotton)
- shorts for hiking
- polypro/thermals – top & long-johns
- 3 pairs of socks (they get wet)
- warm hat or balaclava
- sunscreen and sunglasses
- drink bottle (1 litre)
- spare shoes or sandals
- flashlight/head lamp
- insect repellent (sandflies like foreign blood)
- spare set of clothes
Optional items: Therm-a-rest sleeping mat, gaiters, binoculars, gloves/mittens, earplugs, walking poles, camera.
We supply: Sleeping mats (dense foam), cooking equipment, plates/cutlery, first aid kit, safety equipment and maps.
Equipment Hire: We have high quality hiking equipment which you can hire for our hikes. Please arrange hire gear when you book.
Transport
You will travel in a 10 or 12 seat minibus towing a trailer with camp equipment and your luggage. All vehicles have a public address system, and a stereo with a variety of music. It is also equipped with a range of natural history reference books.Food
All the meals as indicated on dossier are included in the price. On the hike you will enjoy lots of snack stops to keep your energy levels up – muesli bars, scroggin, chocolate. Lunch usually consists of rolls, crackers, cheese, salami and tomato. The hut meal is simple but tasty – usually rice with a delicious sauce and cheesecake for afters. Among the group equipment is a portable stove which we will carry into the hut.Accommodation

Flora Hut/camping – 1 night
Older style DoC hut, people can either stay in hut (12 bunks) or camp outside. Tents can be stored here next day so need to carry them on hike.
Salisbury Lodge – 1night
Really nice hut, with great views.
